DCP began its journey in the summer of 1999 by conducting a pilot program for a small, college-prep high school in downtown San Jose.

  • DCP was the first, and remains the only, charter high school in Santa Clara County to focus on low-achieving urban minority students who will be the first in their families to go to college.
  • 405 students in grades 9 through 12
  • 95% Latino
  • 1% African American
  • 1% Other
  • 3% White
  • 33% are English Language Learners
  • 65% qualify for free or reduced lunch
  • 82% of 9th graders read below the 7th grade level
  • 58% of 9th graders read below the 6th grade level
  • 52% of 9th graders compute below the 7th grade level
  • 20 is the average class size
  • 100% of graduates are accepted to four-year colleges
