Meet Alexander
Why are you excited to go to college?
In high school I fell in love with computers, and now I'm looking forward to pursuing a degree in Computer Science. I want to go to college because I want to give back to my community by bringing internet access to everyone.
Who inspired you to live your dream of going to college?
My mother and father. They would sit with me as I learned to do multiplication, and they would encourage me when I made mistakes. They would always tell me that they wish they were able to study, but they had to leave school to support their families. This gave me the mindset that pursuing an education would give me the ability of living a sustainable life, as well as being able to take care of my parents in the future. However, I would not have been able to make it to where I am today if it weren't for my sister paving the path for me. She has always guided me through my critical moments.
What has been your motivation/silver lining during the pandemic?
My biggest motivation during the pandemic has been the DCP community. From having amazing peers who are always willing to lend a helping hand, to the teachers who are always making sure we understand the material. The DCP community has given me hope and strength when I needed it the most.

¿Por qué estás emocionado de ir a la universidad?
En la escuela secundaria me enamoré de las computadoras y ahora tengo muchas ganas de obtener un título en Ciencias de la Computación. Quiero ir a la universidad porque quiero servir a mi comunidad al brindar acceso a Internet a todos.
¿Quién te inspiró a vivir tu sueño de ir a la universidad?
Mi madre y padre. Se sentaban conmigo mientras aprendía a multiplicar y me animaban cuando cometía errores. Siempre me decían que les gustaría poder estudiar, pero tenían que dejar la escuela para mantener a sus familias. Esto me dio la mentalidad de que seguir una educación me daría la capacidad de vivir una vida sostenible, además de poder cuidar a mis padres en el futuro. Sin embargo, no habría podido llegar a donde estoy hoy si no fuera porque mi hermana me abrió el camino. Ella siempre me ha guiado en mis momentos críticos.
¿Cuál ha sido su motivación / rayo de luz durante la pandemia?
Mi mayor motivación durante la pandemia ha sido la comunidad de DCP. Desde tener compañeros increíbles que siempre están dispuestos a ayudar, hasta maestros que siempre se aseguran de que entendamos el material. La comunidad de DCP me ha dado esperanza y fortaleza cuando más lo necesitaba.
