This past weekend, Downtown College Prep’s very own Christopher McGinnis and Addis Arciniega represented the Silicon Valley Urban Debate League at the 2021 National Association for Urban Debate League’s National Championship. The event was a round-robin composed of 20 teams representing 16 Urban Debate Leagues from across the United States. They went head-to-head to determine the best team in the country. The 20 teams were divided into 4 pods of 5 teams each. Each team debated against the other four members of their pod, with the winner of each pod advancing to a semifinals debate.

Christopher and Addis made our league proud, winning two of their four debates against the Miami Urban Debate League and the Los Angeles Metropolitan Debate League. Junior Christopher McGinnis said, “I felt good about this weekend. The two debates we lost were very close, and because we are juniors I know we will have an opportunity to return and advance even further.” Coach Rob Burns concurred, “I am very proud of Christopher and Addis and their growth in skill and maturity. I know they are going to be a very competitive team at national events next year.”

SVUDL looks forward to seeing Christopher and Addis at this event next year!
